New Slant on Feel-Its macespace 8:11 pm sunday september 17, 2000 Hey boyz an' berries,

I'm gonna intentionally create a temporary identity for myself tonight, called Theoretical Psychologist, and talk about Feel- Its from a different perspective than you might be used to. Anyone wanna play?

Dig, if you will, a baby, just popped outta momma. All gooey and stuff, and not yet a single programmed belief about the way that the world works. (For tonight's game, I am gonna pass over the possibility of pre-natal or pre-incarnational programming. It all comes out the same anyway.) The baby is tabula rasa, clean slate, with no thoughts, beliefs, opinions, etc. Just a hunk of biological goo.

However, the baby DOES have something going for it. It has the same five senses that you and I have, and although they aren't yet fully developed, they are taking in sensory data like crazy. The biological organism was designed specifically to perceive and interpret environmental data, and process it, to see if a response is needed to any of that Stimulating information.

A.) It perceives stuff that is safe and not dangerous to the survival of the body, and it processes that info, and "lets it go!"

B.) It perceives stuff that is very pleasureable (like momma's milk!) and creates one of its first beliefs: "I want more of THAT!!!"

C.) It perceives stuff that is very painful (like a doctor's spank) and it says to its tiny self: " Who the hell is THAT asshole?!?" And it never trusts doctors again!

Well, as you can easily see, from the first day of life, the baby begins to have lots of these three categories of experiences, and it creates Pleasure Beliefs, Pain Beliefs, and Non-Beliefs of pure perception. Pure awareness events. Remember, it has a very clear, unfiltered sense of awareness because the five senses are not limited by large blocks of programmed beliefs yet.

However, time passes, and the young child's awareness begins to shift. At first, it focussed the majority of its attention on a simple pure awareness of its environment. But as it collected more and more belief patterns about the way that they world "works", it shifts that focus instead to the Belief System itself. Get this: The original pure unlimited awareness starts with a heightened sensory perception ability. Then this level of awareness begins to diminish as the Belief System (the BS) demands more of its time and attention.

That's where you adults are now. You are mostly stuck in the programmed BS's in your head and energy field. That is where the Feel-It exercise comes along. The purpose of the Feel-It exercise is to re-develop the sensory skills you once had as a child, and to practice them often enough to re-establish the priorities of your child-like inner awareness. THINKING is being stuck in your BS. FEELING is being focussed in your senses.

When I worked with therapy clients, they all wanted to talk about their beliefs and cognitions. I politely told them that this is a waste of their time! They needed to re-learn how to feel. "But that's gonna hurt, isn't it?" "Big duh, yeah, it is. But, do you want to spend the rest of your life escaping into your mental addictions, or do you want to get your original life back?"

So, starting with a very popular and standard relaxation execise where you feel your toes, and then your feet and then your ankles, and so forth, I would get them re-acquainted with their bodies. This would expand into the other senses. See the color of things, but not the things themselves. Taste sensations on the tongue, but don't eat "things". Hear frequency vibrations, but don't mentally interpret what you hear. And so forth. (This seems like a variation of the Label-It exercises. Which comes first in Avatar? I forget.) Get re-acquainted with your senses, and Feel-Its will become easier. It is NOT a mental process in any way, shape, or fashion. The mind is only used as a triggering device to call up some belief or unpleasant memory or trauma to be fully processed/felt/experienced. Then you turn off the mind (a whole 'nother Posting) and you feel fully and ONLY with the five tools you were presented with at birth. Imagine the clarity of awareness if an adult could re-capture its original unblocked sense of perception about the environment! Almost psychic!

From what I've so far gleaned from the EmoClear exercises, they also work along these lines. The focus is NOT on the cognitions, but on the internal sensations when cognitions arise. Steve might correct me here, but the "chakra tapping" has the effect of stirring up the possible energy blocks located in the chakras, or at least getting them to spin more freely in order to process energy blocks in the human energy field. Then these blocks are FELT (not intellectualized) and released (dropped).

Long enough for ya, night-owls??

End of game. End of session. This shrink is going to bed!
